An undated video clip of Philip Aroko, one of the prime suspects in the murder of the immediate former Kasipul MP Charles Were, campaigning to replace the late lawmaker has emerged.
According to the video, which is circulating on social media just hours after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) summoned Aroko to their offices or ordered him to surrender at the nearest police station, Aroko is heard asking constituents to help him “rescue Kasipul,” which, he claims, has been in the hands of people who “for a long time do not understand how governance is done.”
Coincidentally, the clip is surfacing at a time when Aroko is facing accusations of working with gangs to gun down the Kasipul MP last week in Nairobi.
Appearing at the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road on the night of Wednesday, May 7, Aroko denied any wrongdoing in connection with the death of Charles Ong’ondo Were and dared anyone with evidence against him to come forward.
In particular, Aroko took aim at Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga who also serves as the ODM Party Chair accusing her of influencing the DCI to summon him.
Aroko claimed that Wanga is surrounded by a group of individuals who kill, intimidate, and torture residents in Homa Bay, yet she remains silent about it.
Philip Aroko: The situation that we are in is very unfortunate. I want to leave the police to do their job they summoned me to come, and I am here. I want to tell the people of Homa Bay County that the politics in that county has been turned into madness. It is not politics it is thuggery. I saw the governor pushing so much for me to be called here. She is making calls to the police for me to be called here.
